
Over the past few decades, the interdisciplinary field of Biotechnology has revolutionised the knowledge and technology driven economy, with numerous paradigm-shifting discoveries in healthcare, agriculture, and environmental protection. With the present expansions in knowledge base, skilled workforce, and research and development (R&D) infrastructure, India is well-positioned to play a major role in biotechnology to address global concerns and improve quality of life.
To cater to this increasing need for trained professionals, St. Xavier’s College began the MSc-Biotechnology programme affiliated to the University of Mumbai from the academic year 2007-08. Under the umbrella of academic autonomy and NEP 2020 implementation , the programme offers extensive training in cutting-edge technology to tackle global needs in Biotechnology Research, Product development and Bioentrepreneurship, thus enabling students to prepare for careers both in India and internationally.

BSc in Biological sciences (Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Botany/Life Science/ Microbiology/ Zoology) with Chemistry upto SYBSc level or BSc in Chemistry with Biology courses upto SYBSc level.
The admission for MSc Biotechnology programme in St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai will be based on the merit list derived using the following weightage:
The total fees, including deposit and laboratory fees, as sanctioned by the Board of Management, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous):

The fee amount for Part 2 of the Batch of 2025–2026 shall remain the same as that paid in the First Year, corresponding to each student’s chosen subject combination.
